virtual programsAAS is committed to bringing its digital collections and resources to the widest audience possible.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact public gatherings, AAS is increasing its virtual programming.

An online symposium, Revere in Perspective: Artisany, Labor, and Luxury, organized by the Center for Historic American Visual Culture (CHAViC), was held in 2020. The Virtual James Fenimore Cooper Bicentennial Conference was held in 2021.

Virtual Public ProgramsAAS seeks to connect scholars and citizens by bringing the work of historians and scholars of pre-twentieth-century America before the general public through Virtual Public Programs. These programs also spotlight the work of creative and performing artists and writers who have conducted research at the Society.

Programs typically last 45 minutes to one hour.

Many previous programs are available to view on the AAS YouTube channel

Virtual Book TalksVirtual Book Talks, sponsored by the Program in the History of the Book in American Culture (PHBAC), showcase authors of recently published scholarly monographs, digital-equivalents, and creative works broadly related to book history and print culture. Each installment includes an informal presentation from the author and a Q&A with the audience. These talks are streamed live for registered participants and are recorded for posterity.

Talks typically last 45 minutes to one hour.

WebinarsThe American Antiquarian Society hosts informal webinars on various aspects of its collections and their use. Each session is standalone and includes time for an open Q & A with an AAS staff member.

These programs have been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor
